How does one find their own PFE?  It doesn't seem all that easy to me, I have been working and just living life for so long that my dreams and ambitions have changed or been re-routed.  I am not sure how to go about this quest.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

The book "Dare to Win" is a good place to start. Exercises in it that help with your purpose. Also, the book, seven habits of effective people. In it, is an exercise you can order to determine your mission. I used it years ago to develop mine.

What floats your boat?  What do you get excited about?  Is it helping others or racing cars?  What do you like to do?  Figure it out and then set goals ... make it happen, step by step.

Nothing is more important to me than being a good companion to my husband, a good stepmother to my children, and the best grandmother I can be.

After you understand what is most important in life to you, your PFE, start thinking about your Big Five For Life.  Or maybe, you should look at that first and it will help you find your PFE.  We all have a purpose here on earth; it may seem small and insignificant and only touch a few lives, or be huge and affect a multitude of people.

My dreams and ambitions had also changed until the children were grown and out of the house. Then I asked myself, where was I before I got married and became part of an instant family? I remembered that I was a writer in the 70's and always wanted to go back to writing. Once I made that decision, the opportunities seemed to come to me and now I am writing for a regional magazine, a community newspaper and a website. I'm working on my first book, and although I've been interrupted, I haven't given up.

Try to remember the books and movies you liked when you were a child or a teenager.  What were your interests then? You may find a common thread that will lead you to an answer. Just a suggestion that came out of John's Big 5 workshop.

Good luck! Life can be so fulfilling if you listen to yourself and to the people around you. The answers are all around.
